Fundraising Revenues Triple Our charities and not-for-profits in many cases have seen fundraising revenues double and triple over the last several years. As their revenues increase they look to integrate more electronic tools to help further reduce their operating expenses. This constantly evolving process leads to an increasing amount of funds that can be allocated to projects that aid humankind and the planet. Tsunami Crisis The Christmas holiday season is a generally a time of rest for our staff as it is typically our slowest time of the year. However December 2004 was different. On Dec.26, 2004 South East Asia was hit by a horrific Tsunami that caused widespread destruction and the death of over 200,000 people of which 50,000 were children. Our systems typically run at about 15% to 20% capacity at peak times, but our CTO noticed a significant spike in capacity on the Dec. 26th. By the morning of the 27th our systems were working at 95% capacity. Red Cross had sprung into action and directed people to go and donate online to help the growing number of Tsunami victims. At one point we were getting 100,000 people online at once trying to donate. We had never seen the unprecedented numbers of people opening their hearts and trusting that online donations were the fastest and safest way to get money directed for Tsunami relief. Our CTO showed some true genius, with some tweaking, adjustments and a few add-ons was able to double our capacity to process transactions. The numbers were staggering - from Dec. 26 to Dec. 31…over 160,000 transactions resulting in over $2 million in donations among our charity customers. In the months to follow, with the government matching donations, telethons, and special online events we saw over $60 million in online donations for Tsunami relief causes. It was amazing how so many opened their hearts and wallets to help. It also sent a clear message to charities and not-for-profits that online fundraising was now mainstream and not just a passing fad.
