BC Provincial Renal Agency

The BC Provincial Renal Agency (BCPRA) plans and coordinates health care services for patients with kidney disease in British Columbia.
An estimated 145,000 British Columbians may suffer from kidney disease. The prevalence of this potentially life threatening chronic illness is approaching that of Type II diabetes, yet only a small percentage of individuals are diagnosed or screened for associated conditions.
If patients are diagnosed early, they can postpone dialysis for years or indefinitely.
As many as 30% of people with diabetes also suffer from kidney disease.
In Canada, almost 75% of the nearly 4,000 people on the transplant waiting list are waiting for a kidney.
We work cooperatively with a province-wide network of renal care providers, supporting new initiatives, research and education.
Our goal is to improve the quality of life for those living with kidney disease, while making the best use of health care resources.
