Cancer, a disease that strikes over one hundred thousand people each year in Canada, will affect one in three Canadians during his/her lifetime. However, with research and patient support, the suffering and hardships caused by the illness can be reduced. In fact, progress has already been made, with mortality rates declining steadily since the 1980s. Easing the burden of Canada's leading cause of premature death is the principle goal of this event.
We plan to achieve this goal by raising fund, awareness, and of course hair (lots of hair) ! The campaign will begin with recruitment within the UBC community for volunteers to donate hair (minimum 10" ponytails). This recruitment period will begin just after reading week and will be ongoing until mid-March, the actual date of the event.
